Cancer Warriors
![]()
Hi. My name is Jeannie Tan, and I am 57 years old. In April 1999,
at the age of 48, I was diagnosed with stage 2a cancer of my left breast. I
underwent surgery and had the whole breast removed. Two weeks after the mastectomy
I commenced chemotherapy (6 cycles totalling 12 injections) and 30 days of radiotherapy
as some of my lymph nodes were affected. I lost my hair and my appetite and
was very sick. On top of that I had a very bad attack of mouth ulcers. I lost
6 kilos in weight.
I was in total remission for five years until August 2004 when, through my yearly
check-up, a tumour was found on the lower lobe of my left lung. Of course this
was devastating news for me and, on the advice of my Oncologist, I underwent
further surgery to remove the lower part of my left lung. Again I was put on
another 4 cycles of chemotherapy.
This time the Doctor warned me that I may experience numbness in both my hands
and feet. This did happen. Imagine my frustation and anger of not being able
to feel anything on my finger tips and soles of my feet. This went on for 2
years and, in early 2006, a tiny tumour appeared very near to my spine. Again
I was subjected to 20 sessions of radiotherapy.
At this time a friend introduced me to Chi Dynamics and I contacted Mr. Roland
Hong of the Bedok Branch. I took along my good friend Lynn Mok and together
we joined the class in July 2006. Since then I have not missed a class as I
found the sessions very interesting and, in fact, very addictive indeed.
I was taught "Block Breathing" as well as a full programme of Chi
Dynamics movements with Chi breathing. The amazing part of Chi Dynamics exercises
is that it brought back the senses of my fingers and soles of my feet!! Don't
ask me when it happened as I cannot recall but come back they did and I was
over the moon!!
In one of my meetings with Master Anthony Wee he mentioned that I should go
on a strict vegetarian and brown rice diet and I followed his advice. Additionally
I drink 2 cups of fresh vegetable juice every day. My routine is that I go to
the Botanic Garden every morning (Monday to Sunday) and practice for at least
1 & 1/2 to 2 hours. I also attend the Wednesday evening class at Church
of St.Peter and Paul which is taught by Sifu Nicholas Chia and his wife Laraine,
and Friday evenings at Pine Grove conducted by Mr & Mrs. Yeap. In total
I practice about 11 times a week.
I feel very relaxed after each exercise and, the amazing part of Chi Dynamics
is it gradually brings my CEA, (tumour marker studies), results from 12.8 to
1.9 (My last blood test giving this figure was in January this year).
I am feeling very healthy and I would like to take this opportunity to thank
all my instructors - Mr. Roland Hong, Mr. Ellic Hiu, Mr. Chiang, Col (Ret) David
Lim and his wife Michelle, Mr & Mrs Yeap, Mr. Vincent Wong and Sifu &
Mrs. Nicholas Chia for their valuable teachings. I am looking forward to join
the Chi Dynamics Instructors Programme as I want to be an instructor to help
other cancer survivors and repay what my instructors have taught me.
THANK YOU ALL.
Cancer is not a death sentence and, with positive mind set, and
regular practice of Chi Dynamics exercises, I know I can overcome that dreadful
"C".
For their encouragement I also want to thank my friends, my Church Friends for
their continuous prayers, my family members for their unwavering and undying
support, love and care.
Last, but certainly by no means least, I trust in THE LORD - the Maker of Heaven
and Earth with all my heart.

"It was a wonderful experience & so relaxing. It has been useful to use the techniques during treatment & while undergoing investigations including radiological evaluation. I heartily recommend spending the few hours with Robyn as it produces a lifetime of help as we go through our journey to conquer cancer."

Since
I was discharged from hospital, I had been in unremitting and, sometirnes considerable
pain, relieved only by quite sizable doses of morphine. The problem was I had
not been given a proper plan for pain control. So, everything was rnore or less
experimentation.
Sifu Anthony Wee planned to attack it on two fronts, deep diaphragmatic breathing
done in a controlled way ('CHI' breathing rnethod) and Acu-cupping.
The first day he concentrated on the deep breathing with walking. The plan was
to use deep diaphragrnatic breathing; hold that breath for four seconds, blow
out slowly for six to nine seconds (fully emptying the lungs), then pause for
4 seconds, before inhaling and repeating. As can be imagined, this is rather
more difficult when initially both the walking and the breathing are painfull.
Saturday night was not good. Regular fluctuating pain kept me awake, and it
was a joy to see dawn finally breaking through the farnily room window where
I'd slept in a reclining chair.
At my first session of Acu-cupping, the pain eased in just a few Minutes, and
it was such a relief! During the day as usual, the Pain recurred at intervals,
with Sifu applying more Acu-cupping. On each occasion, the pain eased within
five rninutes. Anthony stayed with us for five days, and by the time he left
there was a tremendous break in my cycle of pain. From rny own personal experience
this can bring enormous benefits to patients.
The whole World of medical care can benefit from what is happening in the wide
range of Complementary Therapies, including, very importantly, the techniques
used by Sifu Anthony Wee. He has already established and developed the most
enthusiastic and successful Support Group in Western Australia, and is planning
to expand to other States and Regions. It is most
important that the orthodox world of medicine, Government and regulatory authorities,
look closely at all that can be done to help patients in all areas of treatment,
and especially in pain control. It is enormously important that all the methods
being used by Sifu Anthony Wee be closely examined and assessed.
His great talents and skills should be exarnined and recorded, and assistance
should be provided to teach his techniques. His skills developed over 40 years
should not be lost. They should be part of Australia's recognized Health Care
Therapies.

For past 3 to 4 years, I have been suffering from sensitive nose/nose
ellergy problem. Every morning and evening, I will suffer from continuous snizzing
and running nose for 30 to 45 minutes. I have seen many doctors and they recommended
me to use Aqueous Nasal Spray twice a day. However, there are times the spary
does not work and the mucus flow is heavy, I have to take a tablet of Clarinase
(which contain 5 mg Loratadine and 120mg Pseudoephedrine Sulfate) .
I also feel sleepy in the morning during my 30 minutes trip from my home to
office. This is so inspite of my regular 3 times a week 30 to 40 minutes of
training on treadmill or cross trainer.
The Chinese physician I consult advise me to reduce my cardiovascular exercises
and replace it with Qi Kong or Tai chi which she think will help my sinus and
"sleepy" problem.
I took part in the Chi Dynamic exercises in Januray 08 and 2 weeks into my regular
practices, my "sleepy" problem disappear completely. As for the sinus
problem, it has been tremendously reduced to perhaps once or twice a fortnight.
Even when it happen, I do not experience heavy n continuous mucus flow at all,
only some snizzing n irritation of the nose but for 10 minutes or so.
